The Venue

Landau Forte College is an independent educational organisation that is home to 1100 students aged 11-19. It was the 14th technology college in England and opened in 1992. It has brilliant sporting facilities, but 24 fit Derby is lucky to be able to use their purpose built theatre (no seating obviously). This is amazing because we currently offer Clubbercise here, which needs to be in the dark. Landau Forte is without doubt our darkest venue and even on sunny, summer days (when we occasionally get them) the theatre is really dark. And because there are no windows, it’s cooler than some venues, a godsend on those …errr hot summer nights. Oh, and there’s a partition wall so there’s room for expansion when classes are very busy.

24 Fit Derby are planning classes at Landau Forte College for 2018.

The great thing about this venue is that it’s so central (only 1/2 mile from the city centre), so it really doesn’t matter where you live but it is particularly convenient if you live in the Chester Green area, Chaddesden, Oakwood or around the 5 lamps area and Darley Abbey.

Things you may not know about the area around Landau Forte

It’s easy to forget but Landau Forte College is in the most historic part of Derby, on the edge of Little Chester, or Chester Green, where there was once a Roman settlement called Derventio and it dates back to the 1st century. Just think, you could be pounding your Ripstix right where Roman soldiers pounded the streets 2000 years ago. Derventio was occupied for 40 years until 120AD. Unfortunately, there aren’t many Roman remains left at little Chester today, just two wells, one on Marcus Street and one in the vicarage garden of St Paul’s church. But people have been excavating the area for years and have turned up a fair bit of Iron Age pottery and a load of coins. Derby museum is full of finds like this and worth a visit if you want to know more
