The Venue

Alvaston Junior School is pretty big as primary schools go and classes here always seem to have a great buzz about them. It’s a large building and is lucky enough to have two halls. Primary schools are great venues because they’re always bright and cheerful and somehow more welcoming. Parking is not an issue, there’s loads of room and it’s right outside the main entrance, so not far to stagger if your legs aren’t your own after all those squats!

24 Fit Derby has really made Alvaston home and now runs classes in Clubbercise, Pound and Zumba here. It’s a perfect venue if you live in Chaddesden, Chellaston, Allenton, or any of the villages along the A6 like Shardlow or Aston on Trent.

Things you may not know about Alvaston

The village has existed since the 11th century, at least. Originally it was possibly a manor gifted to Geoffrey Alselin by William the Conqueror. Alvaston expanded rapidly in the second half of the 19th century and today is pretty large, home to roughly 16,000 people

Its only 3 miles from the city centre and isn’t far from Pride Park and the home of the Rams. Alvaston also has a buzzing shopping centre.

A lot of money has recently been spent on Alvaston Park, which opened in 1913. It now has a science garden, play area and cafe as well as the original boating lake. If you’re into BMX biking, It also has a national track. Apparently, the park was used as a prisoner of war camp during WW2 for German and Italian prisoners.

Alvaston’s big claim to fame is the actor Jack O’Connell who was born here and has starred in ‘This is England’, ‘Skins’ and ‘Unbroken’.
